Christian Norgaard calls on Brentford to focus on own fight and not Everton situation

Brentford captain Christian Norgaard wants the Premier League survival race to be decided on the pitch – not by ‘someone with a calculator’. The Bees were plunged deeper into the relegation battle after Everton’s points deduction for breaking profit and sustainability rules was reduced from 10 to six.

Thomas Frank’s side then did themselves no favours on Monday evening when they were beaten 4-2 by West Ham United. They are now just five points above the drop zone while Luton, in 18th, have a game in hand.

“It’s hard for me to comment on these deductions. Somewhere, someone is sitting with a calculator and putting in points, taking away points,” said Danish midfielder Norgaard.

“I don’t know. It’s people’s jobs, people’s lives they’re messing with. I don’t know what’s going on, to be fair.

“We have to focus on us, not on Everton. I’m sure we will improve and I’m sure we will find ourselves safe in the Premier League when all is said and done. But there are things we have to talk about and improve.

“I think that’s the right approach to have, otherwise you’re relying on someone else’s decisions. We have to improve, we have to do better and then we will be fine by the end of the season.
